A new general method to compute dispersion errors on Cartesian stretched meshes for both linear and non-linear operators

Jesus Ruano et al.

Summary: This article presents a new numerical method for analyzing dispersion errors and evaluating them on Cartesian stretched grids for linear advection problems. The spectral properties of several convective schemes, including non-linear ones, are discussed. The results show convergence with classical methods on uniform structured meshes, and the proposed method considers the effects on time step depending on the scheme used, ultimately allowing for the proposal of an optimal scheme based on meshing strategy.

Heterogeneous CPU plus GPU parallelization for high-accuracy scale-resolving simulations of compressible turbulent flows on hybrid supercomputers

Andrey Gorobets et al.

Summary: This paper presents a heterogeneous parallel algorithm and its software implementation for simulating compressible turbulent flows. The algorithm is based on a family of higher accuracy edge-based reconstruction schemes on unstructured mixed-element meshes. The parallel solution can utilize a large number of computing devices on various computing architectures, including manycore CPUs and GPUs. The paper provides a detailed description of the parallel algorithm and its efficient implementation, as well as demonstrations of parallel performance on different supercomputers.

On the generation of turbulent inflow for hybrid RANS/LES jet flow simulations

F. Gand et al.

Summary: This study evaluates a low-noise turbulence generation method to produce three-dimensional resolved turbulence at the exit of a jet nozzle. Combining the turbulence generation method with ZDES mode 3 produces satisfying levels of resolved turbulence. In comparison, ZDES mode 2 simulations display quick development of three-dimensional turbulence in the mixing layer. These results provide insights on the level of turbulent modeling needed for jet flow simulations.

New Strategies for Mitigating the Gray Area in Delayed-Detached Eddy Simulation Models

Arnau Pont-Vilchez et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a new method to address the gray area issue in the transition from RANS to LES by reducing numerical diffusion in critical areas for more accurate turbulence development. Through testing different formulations and implementing the proposed changes in two different codes, encouraging results were observed, indicating the suitability of the new approach as a candidate for solving the gray area problem in such flows.
