Mechanism Design for Efficient Offline and Online Allocation of Electric Vehicles to Charging Stations

Emmanouil S. Rigas et al.

Summary: The allocation, scheduling, and pricing of electric vehicles (EVs) charging stations are studied in this paper. Two mechanisms for pricing electricity are proposed, and the scalability of the proposed mechanisms is evaluated. The VCG mechanism achieves better results than the fixed-price mechanism in terms of the number of charged vehicles, although it calculates higher prices and provides higher profits for stations. The online algorithms perform at 95.6% of the offline algorithms in terms of the average number of serviced EVs.

Stable matching with uncertain pairwise preferences

Haris Aziz et al.

Summary: This study investigates a two-sided matching problem with uncertain preferences. The results show that finding possibly stable matchings is NP-hard, even if only one side can have cyclic preferences. On the other hand, finding a certainly stable matching is polynomial-time solvable if only one side can have cyclic preferences and the other side has transitive preferences, but becomes NP-hard when both sides can have cyclic preferences.

Privacy and Trust in the Internet of Vehicles

Efstathios Zavvos et al.

Summary: The Internet of Vehicles is designed to improve transportation by connecting vehicles, drivers, passengers, and service providers. However, end-user services make extensive use of private information with little consideration for privacy, resulting in multi-party privacy conflicts. The research categorizes privacy issues into different categories and identifies open research problems related to privacy and trust in IoV services.

A Comprehensive Game-Theoretic Model for Electric Vehicle Charging Station Competition

Efstathios Zavvos et al.

Summary: Establishing en-route charging stations is crucial for the adoption of electric vehicles, but careful planning is needed to address high infrastructure costs and long waiting queues. Existing literature often overlooks competition in station placement, while this study takes into account both investors' and drivers' interests to propose a solution.

QED: Using Quality-Environment-Diversity to Evolve Resilient Robot Swarms

David M. Bossens et al.

Summary: This article introduces an algorithm called QED, which enhances the quality of evolved archives by inducing behavioral diversity through introducing environmental diversity, leading to improved recovery capability for robot swarms when facing faults. The study shows that the archives evolved by QED outperform traditional behavioral descriptors in 5 different robot swarm benchmark tasks.

Rapidly adapting robot swarms with Swarm Map-based Bayesian Optimisation

David M. Bossens et al.

Summary: This study investigates a behavior adaptation approach for rapid recovery from environmental perturbations in swarm robotics, proposing two algorithms for centralized and decentralized optimization. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithms in adaptation of a robot swarm, outperforming random search and gradient descent methods.

Designing a User-Centered Interaction Interface for Human-Swarm Teaming

Mohammad Divband Soorati et al.

Summary: The study focuses on designing a usable interface for human operators to monitor and control a scalable swarm. By restricting interactions to one-to-one communications in local neighborhoods, cognitive complexity is reduced. Visualizing the swarm as a heat map is shown to be more effective in addressing usability and acceptance in human-swarm interaction.

Resilient Intersection Management With Multi-Vehicle Collision Avoidance

Phuriwat Worrawichaipat et al.

Summary: This paper presents a novel decentralised agent-based mechanism for road intersection management for connected autonomous vehicles, focusing on addressing traffic delays caused by road obstructions. The distributed algorithm transfers most computation costs from the intersection manager to driving agents, improving scalability. Empirical experiments show that the proposed mechanism can maintain high vehicle throughput even in the presence of obstacles at intersections.
