Broadband and Low-Frequency Acoustic Liner Investigations at NASA and ONERA

Michael G. Jones et al.

Summary: This paper presents the research achievements of NASA and ONERA in the field of acoustic liners, including conventional liners and multi-degree-of-freedom liners implemented with embedded mesh caps. The evaluation and comparison of different liner concepts are conducted based on standardized aeroacoustic metrics.

Effects of acoustic liner on thermoacoustic instabilities in a premixed swirl combustor

Liangliang Xu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of an acoustic liner on thermoacoustic instabilities in a laboratory scale burner. The results show that the Helmholtz mode can be triggered and enhanced by bias flow, while the 1/4 wave mode is completely suppressed. The instability of the Helmholtz mode can be attenuated by increasing the temperature of the bias flow.

Effects of the foam metal casing treatment on aerodynamic stability and aerocoustic noise in an axial flow compressor

Dakun Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, a foam metal casing treatment method was proposed and experimentally tested on a low-speed axial flow compressor. It was found that the axial location of foam metal is related to stall margin improvement and aerodynamic efficiency loss. The results suggest that the release of rotor tip loading may be a stability improvement mechanism of foam metal casing treatments. Comparison between compressors with solid-wall and implementation configurations showed different stall inception processes.
