Analytical solutions of H2 control and efficiency-based design of structural systems equipped with a tuned viscous mass damper

Yuhao Cheng et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the optimal design of a tuned viscous mass damper (TVMD) in a single-degree-of-freedom structure system subjected to earthquake-induced random vibrations. Design formulas for the optimal frequency ratio and damping ratio, based on H-2 norm optimization, are proposed to control structural displacement and acceleration responses. Additionally, an alternative suggested design (ASD) is introduced for cases with large mass ratios. The paper also compares the control effect of TVMDs and linear viscous dampers, and proposes an efficiency-based design method.

Tuned viscous mass damper (TVMD) coupled wall system for enhancing seismic performance of high-rise buildings

Summary: This paper introduces an innovative coupled wall system called TVMD, designed to enhance the seismic resilience of high-rise buildings. By strategically arranging TVMDs to utilize the relative displacements of adjacent walls, the system provides additional damping for the primary structure, improving overall performance.
