Comparison Between High-Speed Video Observation of Sprites and Broadband Sferic Measurements

Huan Ren et al.

Summary: High-speed video observations of two sprites with halo features were analyzed, showing they were produced by positive cloud-to-ground strokes. The halo features appeared shortly after the return stroke, followed by the sprite elements. Induction component of the lightning-induced E-field significantly contributes to halo formation, suggesting the need for further measurements to identify its role.
