Modulating Angiogenesis by Proteomimetics of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor

Sami Abdulkadir et al.

Summary: New sulfono-gamma-AA peptide-based helical peptidomimetics were designed to mimic a key binding interface on VEGF for VEGFR recognition. These peptides, specifically V2 and V3, exhibited different effects on angiogenesis in vitro, with V3 potently inhibiting angiogenesis and V2 activating angiogenesis, possibly due to their selective binding to VEGFR-1 and VEGFR-2, respectively.

Heterochiral β-Peptide Polymers Combating Multidrug-Resistant Cancers Effectively without Inducing Drug Resistance

Ning Shao et al.

Summary: The study presents a rational design of heterochiral beta-peptide polymers as anticancer agents for combating multidrug-resistant cancers. The optimal polymer shows potent and broad-spectrum anticancer activities against multidrug-resistant cancer cells by damaging cell membranes. In vivo experiments demonstrate that the polymer efficiently inhibits the growth and transfer of solid tumors and the metastasis and seeding of circulating tumor cells. Additionally, the beta-peptide polymers have excellent biocompatibility, superior stability against proteolysis, easy large-scale synthesis, and low cost compared to anticancer peptides.

Statistic Copolymers Working as Growth Factor-Binding Mimics of Fibronectin

Wenjing Zhang et al.

Summary: Growth factors play crucial roles in tissue regeneration, but their short in vivo lifetime limits their application. Researchers have designed amphiphilic copolymers with positive charges, mimicking the GF binding domain of fibronectin, to improve the stability and function of growth factors by enhancing their binding affinities to a wide range of representative growth factors.

Exosome-eluting stents for vascular healing after ischaemic injury

Shiqi Hu et al.

Summary: Stents releasing exosomes derived from mesenchymal stem cells can enhance vascular healing in rats by promoting endothelial cell formation and proliferation, and inhibiting smooth muscle cell migration. Compared to drug-eluting stents and bare-metal stents, exosome-coated stents accelerate re-endothelialization and reduce restenosis.

Enlargement, Reduction, and Even Reversal of Relative Migration Speeds of Endothelial and Smooth Muscle Cells on Biomaterials Simply by Adjusting RGD Nanospacing

Junhao He et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that surface modification with arginine-glycine-aspartate (RGD) nanoarrays can tune in vitro cell migration of endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells, affecting tissue regeneration processes. By adjusting the RGD nanospacing, it is possible to easily control the migration speeds of different cell types, suggesting a potential application of nanoscale surface modification of biomaterials.
