Exploring graph neural networks for semantic enrichment: Room type classification

Zijian Wang et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a novel approach to semantic enrichment of BIM models by representing models as graphs and applying graph neural networks (GNNs). The experiments demonstrate the feasibility of this approach and show that the developed GNN algorithm achieved higher accuracy and more balanced prediction compared to other machine learning algorithms. The application of GNNs in semantic enrichment opens up possibilities for other potential applications.

Automatic classification of wall and door BIM element subtypes using 3D geometric deep neural networks

Bonsang Koo et al.

Summary: This study explored the use of 3D geometric deep neural networks to distinguish BIM element subtypes. Test results indicated that Multi-view CNN had the best prediction performance, while PointNet's accuracy was hindered by resolution loss due to selective use of point cloud data. The research confirmed deep neural networks as a viable solution for distinguishing BIM element subtypes, particularly in detecting subtle differences in local geometries.
