Innovative textile structures designed to prevent type III endoleaks in endovascular stent-grafts

Jing Lin et al.

Summary: A novel fabric for stent-grafts with reinforced zones was proposed and tested to enhance resistance to fabric abrasion. The fabric showed improved mechanical characteristics and fatigue resistant properties compared to commercially available plain weaves. While the fabric design effectively reduced the abrasion caused by the apices of Z-shaped stents, further optimization may still be possible.

Mechanical, structural, and physiologic differences in human elastic and muscular arteries of different ages: Comparison of the descending thoracic aorta to the superficial femoral artery

Summary: Elastic and muscular arteries exhibit different characteristics in structure, function, and mechanical properties, adapting differently to aging. While muscular arteries are more compliant in youth, elastic arteries show increased anisotropy with age.

Comparison of morphometric, structural, mechanical, and physiologic characteristics of human superficial femoral and popliteal arteries

Majid Jadidi et al.

Summary: Study comparing SFAs and PAs in 125 human subjects aged 13-92 shows distinct differences in morphology, structure, and physiological characteristics, primarily due to more severe vascular disease in PAs. When pathologies are equal, mechanical properties are similar, but physiological characteristics remain distinct due to geometric differences.

Vascular Response of a Polymer-Free Paclitaxel-Coated Stent (Zilver PTX) versus a Polymer-Coated Paclitaxel-Eluting Stent (Eluvia) in Healthy Swine Femoropopliteal Arteries

Atsushi Sakamoto et al.

Summary: Comparing the long-term vascular healing responses of healthy swine iliofemoral arteries treated with different types of drug-eluting stents revealed that fluoropolymer-based paclitaxel-eluting stents had more significant postoperative healing effects and drug actions compared to polymer-free paclitaxel-eluting stents, but also exhibited more adverse reactions.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the 2-year performance of a polymer-based drug-eluting stent (DES) for treating complex femoropopliteal lesions. The results showed promising 2-year outcomes when using the Eluvia DES for the treatment of femoropopliteal disease, but a relatively high rate of vessel wall degeneration was observed after DES deployment.
