Effects of Zn Addition on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of As-Extruded Mg-2Al-0.5Ca Alloy

Ming Yuan et al.

Summary: The addition of zinc in as-extruded Mg-2Al-0.5Ca alloys was found to refine the grain size and weaken texture, leading to improved tensile strength and ductility. The alloy containing 0.6 wt.% Zn exhibited enhanced mechanical properties due to its fine and homogeneous grain microstructure, and weakened extrude direction-tilted texture. The in-plane anisotropic tensile properties of the Mg-2Al-0.5Ca-0.6Zn alloy showed little variation, with different strengths and elongation values.

Effect of asymmetry of AZ31 magnesium alloy as-extruded and as-rolled medium plates on coiling feasibility at the intermediate temperature

Fangkun Ning et al.

Summary: The effect of asymmetry of magnesium alloy medium plates on coiling feasibility at intermediate temperature was investigated through experiment and simulation. Activation of the secondary deformation mode improved the deformation capacity of the plates and led to the generation of more secondary twins in the tensile regions.

Summary: This study introduces a novel analytical method for predicting bending and springback behaviors of HCP sheet metals. By utilizing the variable elastic modulus approach, the model is able to capture nonlinearity in unloading and improve springback prediction. Results show significant improvements in prediction by considering the reverse effects of back force on springback behaviors under plane strain conditions.

Improving mandibular reconstruction by using topology optimization, patient specific design and additive manufacturing?-A biomechanical comparison against miniplates on human specimen

Jan J. Lang et al.

Summary: Topology optimized, patient specific osteosynthesis plates (TOPOS-implants) were evaluated for mandibular reconstruction in this study, showing superior fatigue properties compared to miniplates in biomechanical testing. The patient specific shape of TOPOS-implants also demonstrated intrinsic guiding properties to support the reconstruction process during surgery.
