Supramolecular organic frameworks improve the safety of clinically used porphyrin photodynamic agents and maintain their antitumor efficacy

Yamin Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, three-dimensional diamondoid supramolecular organic frameworks (SOFs) were found to effectively suppress the skin phototoxicity of clinically used photodynamic agents (PDAs). The results showed that SOFs have strong interactions with PDAs, can adsorb PDAs at a micromolar concentration, and have high biocompatibility. In animal experiments, SOFs were able to suppress sunlight-induced skin phototoxicity without affecting the efficacy of photodynamic therapy (PDT).

Supramolecular Organic Frameworks: Exploring Water-Soluble, Regular Nanopores for Biomedical Applications

Zhan-Ting Li et al.

Summary: Regular porous architectures have been widely studied for their versatile functions and applications in adsorption. However, most reported architectures exist only in the solid state, posing challenges for their biomedical applications. This Account presents the development and biomedical applications of water-soluble 3D diamondoid supramolecular organic frameworks (dSOFs) as a solution to this problem. dSOFs exhibit regular nanoscale porosity in aqueous solution and can quickly include various guests, showing potential for biomedical applications.
