GISAXS: A versatile tool to assess structure and self-assembly kinetics in block copolymer thin films

Detle-M Smilgies

Summary: Over the past two decades, grazing incidence small-angle scattering (GISAXS) has become a powerful tool for determining the structure and self-assembly kinetics of block copolymer thin films. This review provides an overview of the scattering process, interpretation of GISAXS data, and experimental requirements, and illustrates the application of GISAXS technique in characterizing block copolymer thin films with selected examples.

Benchmarking contact quality in N-type organic thin film transistors through an improved virtual-source emission-diffusion model

Nicholas J. Dallaire et al.

Summary: Current organic thin film transistor technologies lack proper models for characterization due to nonideal behavior, resulting in poorly estimated parameter extraction critical for circuit design and integration. In this work, we fabricated organic thin film transistors with reduced contact resistance by introducing metallic interlayers between the semiconductor and gold contacts. The addition of a 10 nm thick manganese interlayer provided optimal device performance. The improved devices were characterized using an improved organic virtual-source emission diffusion model, which showed significant improvement over common metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor models.

Electrolyte-Gated Field Effect Transistors in Biological Sensing: A Survey of Electrolytes

Guan Ying Wang et al.

Summary: Low operating voltages, rapid response, and high-throughput fabrication compatibility make electrolyte-gated field effect transistors (EGFETs) advantageous for biological sensing. Electrolyte materials, particularly alternatives to water-based liquids, such as ionic liquids and ion gels, offer superior environmental stability and portability. The challenges and opportunities for electrolytes in EGFET applications are discussed for future research in the field.

Ionic Liquid Containing Block Copolymer Dielectrics: Designing for High-Frequency Capacitance, Low-Voltage Operation, and Fast Switching Speeds

Alexander J. Peltekoff et al.

Summary: Polymerized ionic liquids (PILs) show promise for low-power organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) and their performance can be influenced by PIL microstructure, polymer composition, and choice of anion; a more comprehensive understanding of the structure-property relationship is needed.
