Modulation of the Chemical Microenvironment at the Hematite-Based Photoanode Interface with a Covalent Triazine Framework for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Water Oxidation

Huan Chai et al.

Summary: The chemical microenvironment at the interface plays a crucial role in efficient photoelectrochemical water oxidation. In this study, a covalent triazine framework was used to modulate the interface microenvironment between Gd-doped hematite and the cobalt silicate cocatalyst. Gd doping increased the donor density and reduced charge transfer resistance, while coordination bonds provided pathways for charge flow and enhanced the average oxidation state of Co. The conjugated system of the framework allowed for easy electron delocalization. These modifications effectively passivated the surface state and suppressed electron-hole recombination.

Surface Reconstruction of Cobalt Species on Amorphous Cobalt Silicate-Coated Fluorine-Doped Hematite for Efficient Photoelectrochemical Water Oxidation

Huan Chai et al.

Summary: The performance of a hematite photoanode in PEC water oxidation can be significantly improved by fluorine doping and an ultrathin amorphous cobalt silicate cocatalyst, which reduce interfacial transfer resistance and accelerate oxygen evolution reaction kinetics. This comprehensive method demonstrates a feasible strategy for enhancing the charge separation and overall efficiency of the photoelectrochemical system.

Tailored Catalytic Nanoframes from Metal-Organic Frameworks by Anisotropic Surface Modification and Etching for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction

Ze-Xing Cai et al.

Summary: A facile anisotropic surface modification and etching strategy is proposed for the synthesis of hollow structured ZIF-67 nanoframes. The strategy utilizes structural and compositional distinctions between crystallographic facets to selectively etch the nanoframes, resulting in high catalytic activities and stabilities in the hydrogen evolution reaction.

The Significance of Properly Reporting Turnover Frequency in Electrocatalysis Research

Sengeni Anantharaj et al.

Summary: Turnover frequency (TOF) has long been used as an accurate indicator of the intrinsic activity of catalysts in electrocatalytic reactions, but is often not properly reported. While current density is significant in determining apparent activity, TOF can more accurately reflect intrinsic activity free from interfering phenomena, yet remains underused in electrocatalysis.
