Enhanced sequestration of heavy metals from aqueous solution on polyacrylamide grafted with cell@Fe3O4 nanocomposite

Rais Ahmad et al.

Summary: In this study, a poly(acrylamide)-grafted cell@Fe3O4 (PAC@Fe3O4) nanocomposite was synthesized, and its adsorption performance for Pb(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) in wastewater was investigated. The research found that the adsorption efficiency was pH-dependent, with the highest removal occurring at high pH levels and at pH 5 for all three metal ions. The maximum adsorption capacities were determined to be 313.02 mg g(-1) for Pb(II), 219.33 mg g(-1) for Ni(II), and 210.71 mg g(-1) for Cu(II). Kinetic analysis revealed that the adsorption of metal ions followed second-order kinetics, with chemical adsorption as the rate-limiting step. The adsorption process was endothermic and spontaneous.

Cellulose-zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (CelloZIFs) for multifunctional environmental remediation: Adsorption and catalytic degradation

Hani Nasser Abdelhamid et al.

Summary: Crystal growth of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) on biopolymers such as cellulose offers a promising method for obtaining hybrid materials combining natural and synthetic components. By using TEMPO-mediated oxidized nanocellulose (TOCNF) derived from cellulose, the crystal growth of CelloZIF-8 and CelloZIF-L was modulated. These materials demonstrated high selectivity and efficiency in adsorbing CO2, metal ions, and anionic dyes such as methyl blue (MeB), as well as serving as catalysts for dye degradation. The materials can be recycled multiple times without significant loss of performance, and their adsorption and catalysis mechanisms were investigated.
