This article discusses anthologies as essential historiographic documents for studying contemporary Spanish poetry and as instruments for understanding the most recent poetic field. The article aims to examine the critical narration of the penultimate generation of Spanish poets, which is still in the process of historical consolidation. The analysis of the main anthologies and their critical analysis questions some of the conventional characterizations of the so-called Hollow generation or Generation of 2000.
This article starts from the consideration of anthologies as essential historiographic documents for the study of contemporary Spanish poetry, and as privileged instruments to guide us in the most recent poetic field. Hence, our work intends to examine the critical narration, as it has been built by the anthologies, of the penultimate generation of Spanish poets: a late emergence generation that still reveals its fragile historiographical consolidation twenty years after its appearence. The review of the main anthologies that deal with the poets of the referred generation will allow us to know the way in which this narration has been brewing from the very beginning. And their careful critical analysis will lead to questioning some of its fundaments, to point out curious contradictions and to nuance the most repeated cliches when characterizing the so-called Hollow generation or Generation of 2000.
