The Effect of Strategy on the Asymmetric Cost Behavior of SG&A Expenses

Apostolos Ballas et al.

Summary: This study examines the impact of strategy on the asymmetric cost behavior of SG&A expenses. The results show that prospectors exhibit cost stickiness while defenders exhibit cost anti-stickiness. The resource allocation decisions driven by strategic positioning and intangible resources independently affect the direction of cost asymmetry.

Mabel D. Costa et al.

Summary: High levels of trade credit are associated with lower cost stickiness, particularly in firms with high agency problems. In non-competitive markets, trade credit serves as an external monitoring mechanism to reduce cost stickiness, but this effect is diminished in environments with high customer concentration.
