Initial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on college student mental health: A longitudinal examination of risk and protective factors

Martha Zimmermann et al.

Summary: The spread of the novel coronavirus has led to unprecedented changes in daily living. Identifying patterns of movement behaviours in relation to depressive symptoms during adolescence: A latent profile analysis approach

Denver M. Y. Brown et al.

Summary: Adherence to movement behaviour guidelines in adolescence is associated with lower depressive symptoms, with unique profiles identified through latent profile analysis. Socio-demographic variables influence profile membership, and findings indicate that adolescents with high MVPA/low ST have the lowest depressive symptoms, which persists longitudinally. High levels of MVPA or ST alone do not provide additional benefits for depressive symptoms compared to low levels of both MVPA and ST. Intervention efforts should consider all movement behaviours concurrently for better mental health outcomes among adolescents.

Changes in physical activity and sedentary behaviours from before to during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown: a systematic review

Stephanie Stockwell et al.

Summary: The review found that during the COVID-19 lockdowns, most studies reported decreases in physical activity and increases in sedentary behaviours across different populations. Therefore, public health strategies should focus on creating and implementing interventions that promote safe physical activity and reduce sedentary behaviour in case of future lockdowns.
