Behaviors and Perceptions Related to Cutaneous Leishmaniasis in Endemic Areas of the World: A Review

Masoumeh Alidosti et al.

Summary: The study investigated perceptions and behaviors related to cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in different societies, revealing the existence of positive and negative categories of beliefs and behaviors. In most endemic regions, misconceptions are likely the main cause of various misbehaviors when dealing with CL. Providing educational programs to strengthen positive beliefs and correct negative beliefs may be useful in improving relevant behaviors for the prevention and control of CL.

Chemical control and insecticide resistance status of sand fly vectors worldwide

Sofia Balaska et al.

Summary: Sand flies, prominent vectors of Leishmania parasites causing leishmaniasis, are mainly found in tropical and subtropical regions. Control of sand flies through chemical methods is crucial for leishmaniasis prevention, as no human vaccines are available. While insecticide-based interventions, such as residual spraying and treated bed nets, are widely used, alternative control strategies are also being explored. The implementation of evidence-based insecticidal interventions, standardized bioassays, and molecular markers are necessary to effectively manage insecticide resistance and improve sand fly control efforts.

Prevalence and Risk Factors of Human Leishmaniasis in Ethiopia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Mekonnen Haftom et al.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of leishmaniasis in Ethiopia is as high as 9.13%, with significant risk factors being male and the presence of hyraxes within a 300-meter radius. There is moderate heterogeneity in disease prevalence among different regions, and the presence of hyraxes is associated with an increased risk of leishmaniasis in Ethiopia.
