Addressing ecosystem services from plan to project to further tiering in impact assessment: Lessons from highway planning in Sa∼o Paulo, Brazil

Amarilis Lucia Casteli Figueiredo Gallardo et al.

Summary: This paper explores the use of the ecosystem services concept as a thread to tiering in impact assessment from the strategic to the project level using the tiered planning of transportation infrastructure in Sa similar to o Paulo, Brazil. It highlights the importance of explicit and upfront consideration of ecosystem services to support integrated assessment and structured consideration of socioecological systems in decision-making.

An integrated evaluation framework for Land-Space ecological restoration planning strategy making in rapidly developing area

Bo Han et al.

Summary: The LSER policy aims to address the lack of overall planning and united goals in traditional ecological restoration efforts, proposing a multi-scale evaluation framework for LSER planning strategy making. This framework was applied in Jiangsu Yangtze River Economic Belt in China, leading to the identification of county-level LSER zoning and grading, town-level ecological engineering types, and a regional ecological network. These research results can assist in achieving the sustainable development goals of LSER planning.

Exploring the formulation of ecological management policies by quantifying interregional primary ecosystem service flows in Yangtze River Delta region, China

Chengdong Wang et al.

Summary: Ecosystem services (ESs) play a crucial role in the development of human society and the economy. This study focuses on evaluating ecosystem service values (ESVs) and quantifying interregional flows in the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) in China, which has experienced a 15.23% increase in total ESV from 2000 to 2019. The analysis of interregional ES flows in the YRD reveals the key roles of Zhejiang province as a service providing area (SPA) and Anhui province as the largest service benefitting area (SBA) of water conservation and CSOP. Jiangsu province was identified as the largest SBA of soil retention. Understanding interregional ESV flows can provide valuable insights for environmental planning and management to enhance China's ecological compensation policies across different administrative divisions.

Trade-Off and Projecting Effects of Land Use Change on Ecosystem Services under Different Policies Scenarios: A Case Study in Central China

Zhengxin Ji et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of land use change on ESV in Anyang City from 1995 to 2025 under different policy scenarios. Results showed significant land use changes, declining total ESV, and varying levels of synergy and trade-offs among ecosystem services under different scenarios. The proposed framework can provide scientific support for regulating land use and ecosystem services in rapidly urbanized areas.
