Ecological effects of land-use change on two sides of the Hu Huanyong Line in China

Xuesong Kong et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the spatiotemporal change characteristics of ecological land on two sides of the Hu Huanyong Line (Hu Line) based on land use/cover remote sensing images. The results showed that the overall intensity of ecological disturbance caused by land use change increased over time, and significant spatial heterogeneity was found on both sides of the Hu Line. Nine combination types of ecological consequences based on scale and fragmentation changes were identified during the study period.

Does urbanization affect the gap between urban and rural areas? Evidence from China

Changjun Jiang et al.

Summary: This paper studies the evolution characteristics of the multi-dimensional gap between urban and rural areas in China, focusing on population, land, and economic aspects. The results show that the overall gap has decreased, but the development is becoming unbalanced in different regions. Population urbanization has effectively narrowed the gap in the social economic system and residents' living system, while industrial and land urbanization have expanded the gap.

Modes and practices of rural vitalisation promoted by land consolidation in a rapidly urbanising China: A perspective of multifunctionality

Yanfeng Jiang et al.

Summary: This paper explores the modes of rural development promoted by land consolidation from the perspective of land use multifunctionality, and discusses its internal mechanisms. The results show that land consolidation can significantly influence industrial structure, living conditions, ecological environment, and cultural construction by changing the type and intensity of rural land use functions.

Differentiation and correlation of spatial pattern and multifunction in rural settlements considering topographic gradients: Evidence from Loess Hilly Region, China

Zhihao Shi et al.

Summary: This paper proposed a new method of topographic gradient analysis to study the spatial pattern and multifunction of rural settlements in the Loess Hilly Region. The results revealed distinct topographic gradient differentiation in both spatial pattern and multifunction, with significant trade-off/synergy relationships between them. The findings are important for guiding settlement development, spatial reconstruction, and rural revitalization efforts.

Beyond government-led or community-based: Exploring the governance structure and operating models for reconstructing China?s hollowed villages

Jiansheng Liu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a theoretical framework that goes beyond the traditional community-based and government-led models of China's hollowed village reconstruction (HVR) program. By analyzing three case studies, the intersection of decision-making, governance structure, and project performance is explored. The research suggests that a hybrid governance structure with limited land distribution and reconstruction scope is most suitable for China's rural revitalization. The participatory process is crucial, with villages and communities playing a key role in enabling villagers to have more autonomy and integrating their interests with government proposals. This study responds to Elinor Ostrom's common-pool resource theory and offers insights for public governance in rural vitalization in contemporary China.

Research on the function evolution and driving mechanism of rural homestead in Luxian County under the Rural Revitalization

Long Xingyu et al.

Summary: This study explores the internal relationship between the functional evolution of rural homestead and the general requirements of Rural Revitalization Strategy, finding that traffic factors and social economic factors impact the evolution of homestead. The pilot reform of homestead is identified as the leading factor in the functional evolution, with future development of pension real estate being suggested to promote rural economic development.

Global poverty dynamics and resilience building for sustainable poverty reduction

Yuheng Li et al.

Summary: The global poverty gravity center is shifting from South Asia to Africa, particularly Sub-Saharan Africa, which has become the main battleground for poverty reduction. As global poverty reduction progresses, factors such as political instability, local conflicts, economic marginalization, rural decline, natural disasters, and climate change are collectively impacting the least developed areas, making global poverty reduction vulnerable to external shocks.

Multi-objective spatial reconstruction of rural settlements considering intervillage social connections

Xuesong Kong et al.

Summary: This study proposed a multi-objective spatial reconstruction model for rural settlements, considering social connections and other factors. The model's applicability was verified through five scenario designs, showing that social connections have a direct impact on the restructuring direction of rural settlements.
