Floating photovoltaics could mitigate climate change impacts on water body temperature and stratification

Giles Exley et al.

Summary: Floating solar photovoltaics, or floatovoltaics (FPV), are a new form of renewable energy experiencing rapid growth in deployment. While offering advantages such as decarbonizing energy supply and reducing land-use pressures, their impacts on lake temperature and stratification are still unresolved. The study simulated the effects of different sizes and designs of FPV arrays on lake thermal structure, finding complex and variable responses that could have significant implications for ecosystem services and water treatment costs.

Acceptance and Potential of Renewable Energy Sources Based on Biomass in Rural Areas of Hungary

Alexander Titov et al.

Summary: The paper focuses on investigating the social potential of local renewable energy utilization in a rural peripheral region in Hungary, particularly emphasizing the importance of public acceptance of biomass-based renewable energy sources for sustainable development. A survey conducted in Koppany Valley Natur Park 2000 revealed that trust in local authorities, knowledge on biomass, and education level of rural inhabitants are significant factors in supporting the establishment of biomass plants. Additionally, acceptance groups and characteristics were defined for consideration in local development strategies.

Assessment of floating solar photovoltaics potential in existing hydropower reservoirs in Africa

Rocio Gonzalez Sanchez et al.

Summary: Africa has high solar potential but heavy reliance on hydropower, which is increasingly impacted by frequent droughts. Installing floating photovoltaics in hydropower reservoirs can provide electricity during dry periods and save water resources, ultimately meeting the growing energy needs sustainably.

In-Situ Water Quality Observations under a Large-Scale Floating Solar Farm Using Sensors and Underwater Drones

Rui L. Pedroso de Lima et al.

Summary: The rapid deployment of large scale floating solar panels can impact water quality and local ecosystems. Studies on the potential environmental impacts often lack thorough validation with in situ data, but continuous monitoring in this research showed minimal differences in key water quality parameters beneath the solar panels.

Why hate carbon taxes? Machine learning evidence on the roles of personal responsibility, trust, revenue recycling, and other factors across 23 European countries

Sebastian Levi

Summary: Research shows that a sense of personal responsibility for combating climate change is a key factor in predicting opposition to carbon taxes and attitudes towards other climate policies. Political trust plays an important role in predicting opposition to carbon taxes, while returning carbon tax revenues back to households only leads to minor increases in public support for higher carbon taxes.
