Implicit Memory and Anesthesia: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Federico Linassi et al.

Summary: A systematic review and meta-analysis of studies on implicit memory occurrence in adult patients after deep sedation or general anesthesia found that patients with ASA physical status III-IV have a higher likelihood of implicit memory formation. Additionally, deep sedation cases were associated with a lower likelihood of implicit memory formation compared to general anesthesia, and patients receiving premedication with benzodiazepines before general anesthesia also had a lower likelihood of implicit memory formation.

Efficacy of Hypnosis in Adults Undergoing Surgical Procedures: A meta-analytic update

Mareike Holler et al.

Summary: This meta-analysis found that hypnosis has positive effects on mental distress, pain, medication consumption, recovery, and surgical procedure time in adult surgical patients, but not on physiological parameters. The high heterogeneity of study results limits the overall generalizability of these findings.

Summary: This study analyzed the German version of the Harvard Group Scale of Hypnotic Susceptibility, Form A (HGSHS:A), proposed a shorter 5-item version, and generated age- and gender-specific norms. The new version showed high validity, reliability, and classification agreement, reducing test time and facilitating wider use of hypnotizability testing.

Drugs for preventing postoperative nausea and vomiting in adults after general anaesthesia: an abridged Cochrane network meta-analysis

S. Weibel et al.

Summary: Postoperative nausea and vomiting is a common adverse effect of anesthesia, and this study systematically reviewed the efficacy and safety of various anti-emetics used for prevention. The findings show that combinations of drugs are generally more effective than single drugs, with certain single drugs demonstrating high effectiveness in preventing postoperative vomiting. However, there is still a considerable lack of evidence regarding the safety aspects of these drugs, warranting further investigation.
