The Association of Family-Related Adversity With Fighting in Adolescents: Does Hopelessness Mediate This Association?

Jaroslava Mackova et al.

Summary: Research found that adolescents who had experienced at least one family adversity reported more frequent fighting. Similarly, each reported family adversity (death of a parent, substance abuse problems of a parent, conflicts/physical fights, divorce) was associated with more frequent fighting among adolescents. The mediation effect of hopelessness was found in each association of family-related adversity with fighting.

The influence of adverse childhood experiences on internalizing and externalizing problems in early adulthood: Evidence of a gene x environment x sex interaction

Emily M. Wright et al.

Summary: This study found that males' exposure to ACEs is more strongly influenced by genetics, with genetic influences being stronger on offending among males and depression among females. ACEs moderate the genetic influences on offending and depressive symptoms among both males and females, with genetic influences decreasing as exposure to ACEs increases. Systematic sex differences in exposure and reactions to ACEs are at least partially due to genetic differences.

Interventions for Siblings, Extended Family, and Community Members after Pediatric Death

Sarani Pachalla et al.

Summary: The impact of a child's death extends beyond parents, affecting extended family members, friends, and community. While most bereavement care research focuses on support programs for parents, little is known about the efficacy of support programs for siblings, extended family, and community members. Only four reports have described the effectiveness of bereavement support programs for this population, all highlighting the benefits of the interventions studied. Overall, more rigorous and large-scale studies are necessary in this area.
