Risk factors for overuse injuries in short- and long-distance running: A systematic review

Summary: This study reviewed risk factors for lower extremity running injuries in short-distance and long-distance runners, identifying previous running-related injuries as the strongest risk factor for long-distance runners, and previous injuries not attributed to running as the strongest risk factor for short-distance runners. Moderate quality evidence supported factors such as higher body mass index, higher age, and lower running volume as risk factors for short-distance runners. However, the overall quality of evidence for these risk factors in predicting running-related injuries was limited.

Therefore, the placement site may not be a critical factor in deriving accurate and reliable stride data from IMUs.
