Hepatic Arterial Infusion of Oxaliplatin Fluorouracil, and Leucovorin Versus Transarterial Chemoembolization for Large Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Randomized Phase III Trial

Qi-Jiong Li et al.

Summary: This study compared the overall survival of patients with unresectable large hepatocellular carcinoma treated with FOLFOX-HAIC or TACE as first-line therapy. The results showed that FOLFOX-HAIC significantly improved overall survival compared to TACE, with higher treatment response rate and longer progression-free survival.

Summary: This study suggests three sessions before abandoning conventional transarterial embolization (cTACE) for intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma. The study also developed a nomogram to identify responders to the third cTACE session.

A comparative study of portal vein embolization versus radiation lobectomy with Yttrium-90 micropheres in preparation for liver resection for initially unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma

Yuki Bekki et al.

Summary: Both portal vein embolization and Yttrium-90 increase liver resectability rates by inducing hypertrophy of future liver remnants in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and chronic liver disease. Yttrium-90 lobectomy achieves better tumor control and provides more time to assess therapy response, optimizing the indication for surgery.

Transarterial chemoembolization plus lenvatinib versus transarterial chemoembolization plus sorafenib as first-line treatment for hepatocellular carcinoma with portal vein tumor thrombus: A prospective randomized study

Xiaoyan Ding et al.

Summary: The study found that TACE plus lenvatinib was associated with longer time-to-progression and higher objective response rate compared to TACE plus sorafenib in patients with advanced HCC with PVTT and large tumor burden. The combination therapy was also safe and well tolerated.

Integrated I-125 Seed Implantation Combined with Transarterial Chemoembolization for Treatment of Hepatocellular Carcinoma with Main Portal Vein Tumor Thrombus

Wansheng Wang et al.

Summary: The study compared the safety and efficacy of integrated iodine-125 seed implantation combined with TACE versus TACE alone in treating HCC patients with MPVTT. Results showed that the combination treatment group had a significantly higher objective response rate and disease control rate for MPVTT, as well as longer median overall survival compared to the TACE group. Integrated I-125 seed implantation combined with TACE was found to be a safe and effective treatment for HCC with MPVTT.

Summary: The study evaluated patient-reported outcomes (PROs) with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab versus sorafenib in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma. Results showed clinically meaningful benefits in terms of patient-reported quality of life, functioning, and disease symptoms with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab compared with sorafenib.

Summary: The study found significant differences in the recognition of TACE failure/refractoriness among Chinese clinicians, with most agreeing on the need for redefining this concept. Some clinicians chose to use TACE-based combination therapy after TACE failure.
