Extreme weather events risk to crop-production and the adaptation of innovative management strategies to mitigate the risk: A retrospective survey of rural Punjab, Pakistan

Ehsan Elahi et al.

Summary: Evaluation of climate-induced crop damages is important for developing innovative technologies and management strategies to reduce vulnerability in agriculture. This study analyzed survey data from 1232 wheat growers in Pakistan to estimate the production risk of weather shocks on wheat farms and the effectiveness of different management strategies. The results showed that extreme weather events had significant adverse effects on wheat crop damages, especially when occurring close to harvest time. The adoption of adaptive measures significantly reduced wheat losses, and factors such as education, farming experience, family size, cropping area, and access to weather forecast information also influenced the adoption of innovative management strategies.

Understanding farmers' intention and willingness to install renewable energy technology: A solution to reduce the environmental emissions of agriculture

Ehsan Elahi et al.

Summary: This study examines the social acceptance of PV water pumps and the willingness of farmers in rural Pakistan to pay extra for green electricity. The findings suggest that farmers' intentions to install PV water pumps are positively related to attitudes towards environmental protection, subjective norms of sustainable behavior, lack of electricity access, perceived behavior control, and relative advantages. However, the cost of the PV water pump has a negative impact on farmers' installation intentions. The probability of being willing to pay extra for green electricity is influenced by education, household income, lack of access to grid electricity, age, and the cost of green energy technology.

The Competitiveness, Bargaining Power, and Contract Choice in Agricultural Water Markets in Pakistan: Implications for Price Discrimination and Environmental Sustainability

Amar Razzaq et al.

Summary: Pakistan is facing water scarcity, leading to the emergence of informal groundwater markets where farmers trade water. This study examines the structure and implications of contractual agreements in these markets. The findings suggest that the water markets in Pakistan are relatively competitive, with different contracts being common in water-scarce regions and areas with large farmers. The bargaining power of buyers and the landholding size of sellers influence the contract choice. Price discrimination is also observed, where long-term customers may receive discounts. These findings have implications for environmental sustainability.

Impact of Participation in Groundwater Market on Farmland, Income, and Water Access: Evidence from Pakistan

Amar Razzaq et al.

Summary: Groundwater irrigation plays a critical role in the sustainability of arable farming in countries like Pakistan. However, the impact of groundwater markets on farmland utilization, cropping patterns, water access, and income remains largely unknown. This study shows that participation in water markets can lead to higher agricultural land utilization, improved equity in water access, and increased incomes for farmers.

Spatiotemporal Change of Air-Quality Patterns in Hubei Province-A Pre- to Post-COVID-19 Analysis Using Path Analysis and Regression

Muhammad Aamir et al.

Summary: Strict control measures during the COVID-19 pandemic led to a significant decrease in air pollutants in Hubei, particularly PM10 and PM2.5. The air quality index (AQI) showed a slight increase post-COVID-19, indicating potential future deterioration, but had decreased by 22% during the active COVID-19 period. Strong correlations were observed between AQI and PM10, PM2.5, while weaker correlations existed with other pollutants.

Signifying the Effect of Relational and Experiential Cognitive Styles on Entrepreneurial Behavior: A Mediated Moderated Model

Muhammad Aamir et al.

Summary: This study explores the influence of rational and experiential cognitive styles on entrepreneurial behavior, with a focus on the moderating role of entrepreneurial intention and informal learning. Results indicate that both cognitive styles have a significant positive impact on entrepreneurial behavior, with informal learning moderating the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and cognitive styles. Additionally, entrepreneurial intention mediates the relationship between cognitive styles and entrepreneurial behavior.

Understanding cognitive and socio-psychological factors determining farmers' intentions to use improved grassland: Implications of land use policy for sustainable pasture production

Ehsan Elahi et al.

Summary: The study reveals that farmers' attitudes play a key role in their intention to use improved grassland, while social pressure and perceived difficulty also influence behavior. Understanding farmers' behavior belief, normative belief, and perceived behavior control can better promote their use of improved grassland.
