Modeling of urban road network traffic carrying capacity based on equivalent traffic flow

Yuhong Gao et al.

Summary: The determination of traffic carrying capacity and the proposal of a novel calculation model for carrying capacity are the main objectives of this study. It is found that the service level of road network is the key factor affecting the number of vehicles. Based on the definition of carrying capacity and the relationship between average travel speed and service level, a calculation model is established and verified using VISSIM simulation software, which provides accurate results.

A health risk-based threshold method to evaluate Urban Atmospheric Environment Carrying Capacity in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei (BTH) Region

Liyin Shen et al.

Summary: This study developed an improved method to evaluate UAECC based on health risk, incorporating AQHI principles. Results showed that urban built-up areas had poor performance, with cities in the north of the BTH region performing better than those in the south, with PM2.5, PM10, and NO2 being the primary contributors. Overall, UAECC performance has improved in the BTH region.

Can urban agglomeration bring 1+1 > 2Effect? A perspective of land resource carrying capacity

Liyin Shen et al.

Summary: Facing scarce land resources, mankind has been searching for solutions to improve land resource carrying capacity for sustainable urban development. Urban agglomeration development pattern has been widely recognized globally as an alternative strategy to enhance land resource carrying capacity. This study investigates whether urban agglomeration can bring a 1 + 1 > 2Effect to cities from the perspective of land resource carrying capacity. The results show that urban agglomeration development plan can have limited positive effects on land resource carrying capacity and contribute to the improvement of economic performance between cities within the urban agglomeration. However, improving land resource carrying capacity cannot solely rely on implementing urban agglomeration development plan. Certain critical issues need attention when implementing urban agglomeration strategies.

Exploring the temporal and spatial variability of water and land resources carrying capacity based on ecological footprint: A case study of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei urban agglomeration, China

Fengli Zhang et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of the Jing-Jin-Ji region, the ecological and environmental problems have become increasingly prominent. This study proposes a comprehensive evaluation method based on ecological footprint theory and GIS spatial analysis to assess the carrying capacity of water and land resources. By applying the method in the Jing-Jin-Ji region, it was found that many cities in the region were facing unsustainable status regarding water and land resources. The study recommends improving the management system of water and land resources and promoting sustainable and coordinated ecological development.

Spatial-temporal pattern of land use conflict in China and its multilevel driving mechanisms

Song Jiang et al.

Summary: This study developed a methodology to derive the spatio-temporal patterns of land use conflict in China from 2001 to 2017, finding that areas with strong land use conflict had a higher frequency of land use change, with significant differences between two sides of the Hu Huanyong line. The main types of land use conflict in China included strong competition between cultivated land and grassland, rapid expansion of construction land, and high risk of desertification.

How to Address Population Decline and Land Expansion (PDLE) of rural residential areas in the process of Urbanization:A comparative regional analysis of human-land interaction in Shandong Province

Yanbo Qu et al.

Summary: The study identified and categorized human-land interaction in rural residential areas from 2010 to 2020, showing that the phenomenon of PDLE is present in Shandong Province. Different types of incremental land contribute to livelihood protection and development, while government constraints and location conditions play a major role in land reduction. PDLD, PILD, and PILE can improve intensive land use patterns, with PDLE having a significant impact on improving the living environment. However, interactions like PDLD and PILD have led to decreased production and living quality in rural areas, while PDLE poses a threat to land use patterns and eco-friendly environments.

Conjugate evaluation of sustainable carrying capacity of urban agglomeration and multi-scenario policy regulation

Qian Gao et al.

Summary: This study explores the sustainable development of urban agglomerations through conjugate thinking and multi-scenario policy regulation. By establishing evaluation models and indicator systems, key factors and policy suggestions for promoting sustainable development of urban agglomerations are proposed. The case study reveals the increasing carrying capacity of the urban agglomeration along with the importance of controlling economic development speed and enhancing the maintenance of resources, environment, and ecology.

How does the rural settlement transition contribute to shaping sustainable rural development? Evidence from Shandong, China

Qu Yanbo et al.

Summary: This study revealed the dynamic process of rural settlement transition (RST) by analyzing data collected from 1996 to 2016 in Shandong Province. Findings indicate that rural population first decreased and then reached a relatively stable state, while rural settlements experienced a rapid decline after a short increase. The coupling relationship between RST and rural development shifted from extensive to intensive development during urbanization.
