Curcumin Targeting NF-κB/Ubiquitin-Proteasome-System Axis Ameliorates Muscle Atrophy in Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cachexia Mice

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: Curcumin has therapeutic effects on breast cancer cachexia by inhibiting tumor growth, reducing weight loss and muscle mass decline, and improving muscle function. It also decreases muscle inflammation, ubiquitination levels, and NF-KB pathway activation by regulating energy metabolism pathways.

Activated Protein Phosphatase 2A Disrupts Nutrient Sensing Balance Between Mechanistic Target of Rapamycin Complex 1 and Adenosine Monophosphate-Activated Protein Kinase, Causing Sarcopenia in Alcohol-associated Liver Disease

Gangarao Davuluri et al.

Summary: Despite the high clinical significance of sarcopenia in alcohol-associated cirrhosis, the mechanisms of ethanol-induced impaired protein homeostasis are poorly understood. This study identified PP2A as a key mediator in ethanol-induced dysregulation of protein balance, suggesting potential therapeutic approaches targeting the PI3K gamma-PP2A axis.

Effect of gut microbiota on LPS-induced acute lung injury by regulating the TLR4/NF-kB signaling pathway

Jia Tang et al.

Summary: The study explores the regulatory mechanism of gut flora in the host defense against LPS-induced ALI through the TLR4/NF-kB pathway. It is found that gut microbiota imbalance may regulate the TLR4/NF-kB signaling pathway in the lung immune system, activating oxidative stress in the lung and mediating lung injury through the regulation of the gut barrier. Additionally, fecal microbiota transplantation impairs the activity of the TLR4/NF-kB signaling pathway in the lung and decreases oxidative stress in animals with ALI by restoring the gut microecology.

Triptolide prevents LPS-induced skeletal muscle atrophy via inhibiting NF-κB/TNF-α and regulating protein synthesis/degradation pathway

Wei-Yu Fang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that triptolide, obtained from Tripterygium wilfordii Hook F, can prevent inflammation-induced skeletal muscle atrophy by regulating various signaling pathways and molecular mechanisms. The findings suggest potential for triptolide as a novel agent for preventing muscle wasting.

Serum HMGB1 associates with liver disease and predicts readmission and mortality in patients with alcohol use disorder

Augustin G. L. Vannier et al.

Summary: The study found that patients with AUD and ALD had higher serum HMGB1 levels compared to those with AUD only. Additionally, serum HMGB1 levels were positively associated with liver disease severity. HMGB1 showed promise as a biologically relevant biomarker for ALD and effectively predicted liver-related readmission and transplantation/death at 90 days.
