Crude oil time series prediction model based on LSTM network with chaotic Henry gas solubility optimization

Aytac Altan et al.

Summary: A new crude oil price prediction model is proposed, incorporating LSTM, technical indicators, and CHGSO technique to address the chaotic and nonlinear characteristics of crude oil time series. Features based on trend, momentum, and volatility indicators are utilized, selected by an optimization algorithm based on chaotic map, successfully coping with the chaoticity and nonlinear dynamics of crude oil time series.

Are CDS spreads predictable during the Covid-19 pandemic? Forecasting based on SVM, GMDH, LSTM and Markov switching autoregression

Darko B. Vukovic et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the forecasting performance of different methods for credit default swap spreads. The results show that MSA method performs the best and GMDH method breaks the efficient market hypothesis most frequently. The study also finds that the market efficiency decreases during the Covid-19 period, but there are no significant differences in prediction performances before and during the pandemic.

A Jackknife empirical likelihood approach for K-sample Tests

Yongli Sang et al.

Summary: The passage introduces an alternative measure of dependence between categorical and numerical variables, and develops a non-parametric test based on categorical Gini correlation for comparing K distributions. By using the jackknife empirical likelihood approach, a standard chi-squared distribution is established and applied to determine critical values and p-values. Simulation studies show that the proposed method is competitive with existing methods in terms of test power, which is further illustrated in an application on a real dataset.

Comparison of PLS and SVM models for soil organic matter and particle size using vis-NIR spectral libraries

Felipe B. de Santana et al.

Summary: In this study, a systematic comparison was conducted between partial least squares (PLS) and support vector machine (SVM) regression algorithms for soil organic matter and particle size determinations using vis-NIR spectroscopy. The results showed that SVM-RBF models exhibited significant improvement in accuracy for sand and clay determinations when built with at least 1000 samples, and for SOM determinations, the difference in RMSEP values between SVM-RBF and PLS became significant when 2000 or more samples were used in the calibration set.

Symmetry-Based Brain Abnormality Detection Using Machine Learning

Mohammad A. N. Al-Azawi

Summary: Medical image processing, particularly in the field of brain abnormalities detection using MRI, relies on symmetry and similarity between brain lobes to overcome challenges posed by varying brain image shapes. This study proposes a method that divides brain images into left and right lobes, extracts features from each lobe, calculates distances between corresponding metrics, and uses them as independent variables for classification algorithms. Among tested classifiers, random forest (RF) yielded the highest accuracy of 98.2%, showcasing the effectiveness of the method in addressing shape variations in brain images.
