Identification of 4-O-p-coumaroylquinic acid as astringent compound of Keemun black tea by efficient integrated approaches of mass spectrometry, turbidity analysis and sensory evaluation

Mingchun Wen et al.

Summary: This study identified p-coumaroylquinic acids as the astringent contributing compounds in Keemun congou black tea, with trans-4-O-p-coumaroylquinic acid (trans-4-O-pCoQA) confirmed as the main astringent compound. Turbidity analysis coupled with sensory evaluation proved to be an effective tool for identifying critical compounds responsible for the astringent taste in the tea.

Exploring the Relationship of Perivascular Adipose Tissue Inflammation and the Development of Vascular Pathologies

Afifah Zahirah Abd Rami et al.

Summary: Perivascular adipose tissue (PVAT) not only provides mechanical support but also regulates vascular function by releasing adipocytokines. Healthy PVAT has anti-contractile and anti-inflammatory effects, while dysfunctional PVAT induces an inflammatory response.

Natural Flavonoids Derived From Fruits Are Potential Agents Against Atherosclerosis

Ruo-Lan Li et al.

Summary: Atherosclerosis, a chronic inflammatory response, is a major cause of cardiovascular diseases. Flavonoids, natural polyphenol compounds found in fruits, have potential health benefits and are widely used in supplements, cosmetics, and medicines. This paper reviews the role and potential mechanism of flavonoids in atherosclerosis, focusing on important nodes such as endothelial cell dysfunction, smooth muscle cell migration and proliferation, foam cell accumulation, and inflammatory response.

Adherence to a Healthy Lifestyle and the Risk of All-Cause Mortality and Cardiovascular Events in Individuals With Diabetes: The ARIC Study

Dongze Li et al.

Summary: The study found that adherence to a healthy lifestyle was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular events and mortality in diabetic patients. The impact was particularly significant for women compared to men. These findings suggest that promoting a healthy lifestyle could help reduce the healthcare burden of diabetes.

Physiological effects of tangeretin and heptamethoxyflavone on obese C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat diet and analyses of the metabolites originating from these two polymethoxylated flavones

Marina Nery et al.

Summary: The study found that tangeretin and HMF can repair metabolic damages caused by a high-fat diet, reducing levels of blood glucose, leptin, resistin, and improving insulin resistance. There were some differences between the physiological effects of tangeretin and HMF, with HMF mainly affecting liver fat accumulation and anti-inflammatory effects, while tangeretin mainly reduced adipocyte size.

Lipid Oxidation Products on Inflammation-Mediated Hypertension and Atherosclerosis: A Mini Review

Xin-Fang Leong

Summary: Cardiovascular diseases like hypertension and atherosclerosis are common causes of death in developed and developing countries. Repeatedly heating dietary oils can lead to the production of toxic lipid oxidation products, impairing antioxidant capacity in the body and potentially leading to inflammation and oxidative stress. Understanding the pathways associated with lipid oxidation-derived aldehydes may help in developing therapeutic strategies for preventing inflammatory-related cardiovascular complications.
