On the preferential grain boundary oxidation of a Ni-Co-based superalloy

Jiang Ju et al.

Summary: The study showed that the oxide scale formed on a Ni-Co-based superalloy after oxidation contains internal oxides preferentially along the grain boundaries, mainly composed of equiaxed nano-sized Al2Ti7O15. The presence of a large number of plane defects in Al2Ti7O15 works as fast-diffusion paths for the inward diffusion of oxygen, contributing to the preferential grain boundary oxidation.

Long term effect of operating loads on large monopile-supported offshore wind turbines in sand

Aliyu Abdullahi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the behavioural patterns of offshore wind turbines, particularly large ones supported on monopiles, to prevent negative impacts on their serviceability arising from modal property and foundation tilt changes. Data collected over 10 years is used to analyze load cases and estimating forces and moments acting on a prototype 10 MW OWT, revealing the potential underestimation of natural frequencies and tilt by fixed amplitude cyclic loads. By conducting long term model tests, the study aims to bridge the gap in understanding and predicting OWT behaviors.

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: This research provides an entropic analysis of a double helical tube heat exchanger with circular depressions on both inner and outer tubes, using experimentally validated 3D numerical simulation. The study investigates the entropic characteristics of four different cases, showing that creating circular depressions on both tubes significantly improves heat transfer but also increases entropy generation. Case d, where the outer tube depressions are located between continuous inner tube depressions, demonstrates the highest thermal performance and entropy generation.

Entropy generation and sensitivity analysis of R134a flow condensation inside a helically coiled tube-in-tube heat exchanger

Yan Cao et al.

Summary: Entropy generation analysis is crucial for evaluating heat transfer enhancement and pressure drop in enhanced heat exchangers. This study investigates entropy generation during R134a flow condensation inside a helically coiled tube-in-tube heat exchanger, finding that larger tube diameters and diameter ratios, higher mass and heat fluxes, and lower saturation temperatures result in higher entropy generation. Sensitivity analysis indicates that coils with larger tube diameters are more sensitive to changes in flow conditions, while coils with different coil diameters show similar sensitivity levels.
