Does the critical N dilution curve for maize crop vary across genotype x environment x management scenarios? - a Bayesian analysis

Ignacio A. Ciampitti et al.

Summary: This study presents a global synthesis of maize data related to plant biomass and plant N concentration to fit critical N curves and test differences in curve parameters across varying GxExM combinations. Results show minor variations in curve parameters between different GxExM combinations, suggesting that changes in plant canopy architecture may impact the N dilution curve and warrant further evaluation. Refining the estimation of critical plant %N will improve the assessment of plant N status.

Patterns and drivers of global gross nitrogen mineralization in soils

Ahmed S. Elrys et al.

Summary: Soil gross nitrogen mineralization is mainly controlled by climate and soil properties, with factors such as microbial biomass, total carbon, total nitrogen, precipitation, bulk density, and soil pH playing key roles. Total nitrogen accelerates mineralization by increasing microbial biomass, while lower bulk density and higher precipitation also stimulate the process. The study suggests that microbial population size, soil substrate availability, soil pH, precipitation changes, and land use can interact to influence nitrogen mineralization, ultimately impacting ecosystem productivity and nitrogen loss to the environment.

Transient reprogramming of crop plants for agronomic performance

Stefano Torti et al.

Summary: The proposed technology targets regulatory circuits within plants transiently, allowing for customized alterations of agronomic traits. By utilizing RNA viral transfection methods, this approach is fast, versatile, and does not involve genetic modification of plant genomes. It can be used in multiple plant species for rapid fine-tuning of traits without altering the genome.
