Anacraspedodidymum submersum sp. nov. (Chaetosphaeriaceae, Chaetosphaeriales), a new species of freshwater hyphomycetes from southwest China

Hua Zheng et al.

Summary: A new species, Anacraspedodidymum submersum, was isolated during a mycological survey in southwest China, characterized by unique conidiogenous cells and conidia. Phylogenetic analysis showed that it clustered with Thozetella in Chaetosphaeriaceae. This study provides a full description, illustrations, and a phylogenetic tree for A. submersum.

Phylogenetic Reassessment, Taxonomy, and Biogeography of Codinaea and Similar Fungi

Martina Reblova et al.

Summary: The study provided a comprehensive examination of the taxonomy, systematics, and biogeography of Codinaea and its relatives, revealing new genera and emended generic concepts. It found that Codinaea is polyphyletic and utilized dual DNA barcoding for species identification, showing a distribution mainly in the Holarctic realm or tropical regions.

Phylogeny, Global Biogeography and Pleomorphism of Zanclospora

Martina Reblova et al.

Summary: Zanclospora, a genus of dematiaceous hyphomycete, exhibits high phenotypic heterogeneity and diverse anamorphic stages. Phylogenetic analyses reveal its polyphyletic nature with species distributed among three distantly related lineages. It thrives on decaying plant matter and has main diversity centers in Australasia, Caribbean/Central America, and Southeast Asia according to environmental DNA data.

Freshwater hyphomycetes in Sordariomycetes: two new species of Tainosphaeria (Chaetosphaeriaceae, Chaetosphaeriales) from Thailand

Chun-xue LI et al.

Summary: The ongoing investigation of lignicolous freshwater fungi in Thailand has led to the discovery of numerous new hyphomycetous species. In this study, two new species, Tainosphaeria aquatica and T. thailandense, are described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analysis. A synopsis of the morphological characteristics of Tainosphaeria species is also presented.

Phylogeny and taxonomy of Catenularia and similar fungi with catenate conidia

Martina Reblova et al.

Summary: This study reviewed the genus Catenularia and proposed new combinations and a new genus to describe similar fungi. Catenularia fungi mainly inhabit decaying bark, wood, and bamboo culms with specific morphological characteristics. By analyzing ribosomal DNA sequences, a new species closely related to Catenularia was discovered, shedding light on the phylogeny of this genus.

Reflections on Menisporopsis, Multiguttulispora and Tainosphaeria Using Molecular and Morphological Data

Martina Reblova et al.

Summary: This study on Menisporopsis, Multiguttulispora, and Tainosphaeria, saprobes inhabiting decaying plant material, utilized an integrated morpho-molecular characterization to assess their generic concepts and explore phylogenetic relationships. It revealed Menisporopsis as polyphyletic and proposed a new segregate genus, Arcuatospora. The Tainosphaeria complex was resolved into three genera, with Tainosphaeria s. str. accepted with five species and others transferred to new genera. Additionally, a new genus Flectospora was erected for a previously unrecognized fungus nested in the Tainosphaeria clade, based on molecular evidence.
