Population Structure of Moniliophthora perniciosa in the Main Cacao Producing Departments of Colombia

Yeirme Jaimes et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the genetic diversity and population structure of Moniliophthora perniciosa in Colombia, revealing that the genetic structure was predominantly influenced by geographic origin rather than the genotype of Theobroma cacao. The results of this research provide important insights into the dispersal patterns of the pathogen in Colombia and the genetic changes of its populations due to different environmental conditions.

Virulence and molecular diversity among Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici pathotypes identified in India between 2015 and 2019

Om Prakash Gangwar et al.

Summary: Yellow rust caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici is a major wheat disease in India and globally. A study analyzing 951 samples found 11 distinct Pst pathotypes, with pathotype 46S119 being the most prevalent. Genetic diversity assessment using SSR markers showed the potential for rust resistance breeding and cultivar deployment in affected areas.

Genetic Structure and Asymmetric Migration of Wheat Stripe Rust Pathogen in Western Epidemic Areas of China

Junmin Liang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the population genetics of Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici in western epidemic areas of China, revealing high genetic diversity in each regional population and a moderate population structure influenced by seasonality and geography. Calculated migration rates showed asymmetric migration between major populations in the western epidemic areas, with greater migration rates from high elevation oversummering areas to low elevation overwintering areas.

Genotyping Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici Isolates with SSR and SP-SNP Markers Reveals Dynamics of the Wheat Stripe Rust Pathogen in the United States from 1968 to 2009 and Identifies Avirulence-Associated Markers

Tinglan Liu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the longterm population dynamics of P. striiformis f. sp. tritici in the United States using genotyping 1,083 isolates collected from 1968 to 2009. The results showed significant differences between populations prior to 2000 and those from 2000 to 2009, with the latter showing higher genotypic diversity and heterozygosity. The findings suggest the coexistence of newly introduced populations alongside established populations in the United States, providing valuable information for disease management strategies.

Wheat Resistance to Stripe and Leaf Rusts Conferred by Introgression of Slow Rusting Resistance Genes

Reda Ibrahim Omara et al.

Summary: Twenty-three wheat genotypes were evaluated for resistance against stripe rust and leaf rust, with eight genotypes showing resistance at both seedling and adult stages. Crosses were conducted between susceptible genotypes and slow rusting genes, resulting in the selection of resistant plants with detection of resistance genes. This study is important for introducing new active resistance genes into breeding programs and preserving diversity among recently released wheat genotypes.
