Mitochondria-Rich Extracellular Vesicles From Autologous Stem Cell-Derived Cardiomyocytes Restore Energetics of Ischemic Myocardiums

Gentaro Ikeda et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that extracellular vesicle-mediated transfer of autologous mitochondria can enhance cardiac function by restoring myocardial bioenergetics. The therapy shows potential as a precision therapeutic for mitochondria-related diseases such as heart failure.

One step forward: extracellular mitochondria transplantation

Lucia-Doina Popov

Summary: Mitochondria not only play a crucial role within cells, but also exist outside cells. Mitochondrial transplantation is a therapeutic approach to replace damaged mitochondria and provide protective effects. However, there is currently no consensus on the efficacy of mitochondrial transplantation strategy.

Conditioned medium from induced pluripotent stem cell-derived mesenchymal stem cells accelerates cutaneous wound healing through enhanced angiogenesis

Xiaoting Liang et al.

Summary: This study compared the effectiveness of conditioned medium of MSCs derived from induced pluripotent stem cells (iMSC-CdM) with that derived from umbilical cord MSCs (uMSC-CdM) in a mouse cutaneous wound healing model. The iMSC-CdM was found to be superior to uMSC-CdM in accelerating wound closure, enhancing angiogenesis, and protecting HUVECs from H2O2-induced injury via the ERK pathway. Collectively, iMSC-CdM may serve as a more constant and sustainable source for cell-free therapeutic approach in treating cutaneous wounds.
