A compartmental epidemic model incorporating probable cases to model COVID-19 outbreak in regions with limited testing capacity

A. Hasan et al.

Summary: A new compartmental epidemic model is proposed in this study, which takes into account the probable cases with symptoms but no confirmatory laboratory testing. The model is proven to be well-posed, and an explicit expression for the basic reproduction number is provided. The model is combined with an extended Kalman filter to estimate the time-varying effective reproduction number of COVID-19 in West Java province, Indonesia and the state of Michigan, USA, where laboratory testing capacities are limited. The results show that the value of the reproduction number is higher when the probable cases are considered.

A new estimation method for COVID-19 time-varying reproduction number using active cases

Agus Hasan et al.

Summary: This study proposes a new method to estimate the time-varying effective reproduction number of COVID-19. It utilizes a discrete-time stochastic augmented compartmental model and a two-stage estimation method with a low pass filter to remove short term fluctuations. The method does not require serial interval information and is comparable to common approaches.

Mathematical analysis of a social hierarchy-structured model for malaria transmission dynamics

S. Olaniyi et al.

Summary: This paper presents and analyzes a time-dependent social hierarchy-structured deterministic model to study the effects of social class disparity on the transmission dynamics of malaria disease. It also suggests various interventions to prevent and control the spread of malaria in a population with a social hierarchy.

Numerical Simulations of Vaccination and Wolbachia on Dengue Transmission Dynamics in the Nonlinear Model

Prem Junsawang et al.

Summary: This study suggests that the dengue virus can be eliminated through the use of vaccines and Wolbachia. Wolbachia therapy is effective in regions with minimal to moderate transmission levels, while vaccination is successful in areas with high transmission levels and serologically strong individuals. A combination of stochastic methodology and artificial intelligence algorithms can be used to optimize the numerical therapies for the mathematical form of the dengue model.

Releasing incompatible males drives strong suppression across populations of wild and Wolbachia-carrying Aedes aegypti in Australia

Nigel W. Beebe et al.

Summary: Releasing sterile or incompatible male insects is a proven method of population management with the potential to revolutionize mosquito control in agricultural systems. A study in northern Australia using the incompatible insect technique (IIT) with the mosquito vector Aedes aegypti showed significant population declines, indicating the potential of this method in field settings.

An optimal control of malaria transmission model with mosquito seasonal factor

Fatmawati et al.

Summary: The study presents a malaria model without and with seasonal factor, analyzing equilibria and optimal control variables in the form of insecticide, prevention, and treatment for both cases. The influence of seasonal factor on infected mosquitoes and humans population dynamics in hot climate regions is highlighted. Optimal controls effectively reduce the number of exposed and infectious populations in both human and mosquito populations.

Dengue infection modeling and its optimal control analysis in East Java, Indonesia

Muhammad Altaf Khan et al.

Summary: This study presents a mathematical model for dengue fever transmission with hospitalization, estimating the basic reproduction number for infected cases. Results suggest that prevention measures and insecticide play a key role in disease eradication, significantly reducing dengue fever infection and limiting further spread in the community.
