Fabrication of a wound dressing mat based on Polyurethane/Polyacrylic acid containing Poloxamer for skin tissue engineering

Hossein Gharib Khajeh et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel electrospun nanofibers (NFs) based on polyurethane/polyacrylic acid/poloxamer (PU/PAA/POLO) was designed as a biocompatible wound dressing, and its properties were thoroughly investigated. The results showed that the produced NFs had a uniform morphology and acceptable mechanical characteristics. Increasing the weight concentration of POLO in the NF structure led to an increase in NF diameter, swelling ratio, wettability, and degradation degree. Moreover, increasing the NF diameter significantly reduced the porosity and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR). Cell experiments demonstrated that the produced NFs were non-toxic and could serve as a good platform for cell adhesion and proliferation.

Applications of electrospun scaffolds with enlarged pores in tissue engineering

Yuangeng Zhang et al.

Summary: The electrospinning method has advantages in creating materials, but the pore size of the resulting scaffolds is often too small for 3D cell culture. To meet the needs of tissue engineering, the pore size should be increased and adjusted accordingly. Various methods have been described for enlarging the pore size of electrospun scaffolds.

Gas foaming of electrospun poly(L-lactide-co-caprolactone)/silk fibroin nanofiber scaffolds to promote cellular infiltration and tissue regeneration

Yujie Chen et al.

Summary: In situ gas foaming was used to create 3D PLCL/SF scaffolds with nanotopographic cues and a multilayered structure, enhancing hydrophilicity and biocompatibility. These scaffolds had larger pore size and high porosity compared to 2D counterparts, promoting deposition of ECM components and new vessel regeneration. The 3D scaffolds also showed increased numbers of CD163(+)/CCR7(+) cells after implantation in a subcutaneous model, highlighting their potential in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering applications.
