Delivery of curcumin by fucoidan-coated mesoporous silica nanoparticles: Fabrication, characterization, and in vitro release performance

Summary: In this study, complex nanoparticles containing disulfide bonds (SS) were designed and prepared as curcumin (Cur) carriers. When the mass ratio of MSN to FUC was 2:1, the nanospheres particle size was the smallest. MSN-Cur-SS-FUC encapsulated curcumin with an encapsulation rate over 90% and showed a cumulative release rate over 80% in 24 hours.

Summary: Combining passive targeting with active targeting is a promising approach to improve the therapeutic efficacy of nanotherapy. In this study, ultra-small-sized gemcitabine-based nanoparticles were combined with folic acid conjugation for enhanced dual targeted delivery to tumor cells and tumor-associated macrophages. The co-delivery system showed small particle size and achieved significant reduction of tumor growth in a breast cancer model.

Enhancing the stability of zein/fucoidan composite nanoparticles with calcium ions for quercetin delivery

Summary: In this study, composite nanoparticles based on zein and fucoidan were prepared, and the effects of different calcium ion concentrations on the stability of the system loaded with quercetin were investigated. It was found that the addition of Ca2+ improved the release of active substances from the nanoparticles, especially at a concentration of 1.5 mM. This suggests potential applications for these composite nanosystems in delivering active substances.
