Microstructural properties of the proximal sesamoid bones of Thoroughbred racehorses in training

Summary: The study revealed that the bone volume fraction (BVTV) of the proximal sesamoid bones is associated with racing histories, extent of bone microcracks, bone resorption, handicap ratings, age, and the age at which racing commenced. Meanwhile, bone material density (BMD) is related to age, gender, handicap ratings, and regions of the bone.
