Sleep problems in rheumatoid arthritis over 12 years from diagnosis: results from the Swedish EIRA study

Lauren Lyne et al.

Summary: In this cohort of newly diagnosed patients with RA, sleep problems were mainly related to pain and reduced function. Treatment of sleep problems in RA should focus on treating the underlying issue causing sleep disturbances.

Therapeutic Targets for Heart Failure Identified Using Proteomics and Mendelian Randomization

Albert Henry et al.

Summary: This study investigated the associations and causal relationships of 90 cardiovascular proteins with heart failure (HF). It identified 44 proteins that were associated with incident HF, of which 8 showed evidence of a causal relationship and 7 were druggable. Adrenomedullin (ADM) was highlighted as a particularly promising drug target.

Genetically Predicted Levels of Circulating Inflammatory Cytokines and the Risk and Age at Onset of Parkinson's Disease: A Two-Sample Mendelian Randomization Study

Yating Zhao et al.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization to explore the association between inflammatory cytokines and Parkinson's disease (PD). The results show a causal association between circulating levels of macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta (MIP1b) and PD risk, and a suggestive association between interleukin-16 (IL-16) levels and PD risk. These findings suggest that MIP1b and IL-16 may be novel biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets for PD development.

Mendelian Randomization Analysis Suggests No Associations of Herpes Simplex Virus Infections With Multiple Sclerosis

Wan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization (MR) to investigate the relationship between infection with herpes simplex virus (HSV) and the risk of multiple sclerosis (MS). The results showed that genetically predicted HSV infection was not associated with the risk of MS. Additional sensitivity analyses confirmed the robustness of these null findings. Therefore, this study did not support a causal relationship between genetic susceptibly to HSV and MS.

Persistent inflammatory and non-inflammatory mechanisms in refractory rheumatoid arthritis

Maya H. Buch et al.

Summary: This review focuses on two types of refractory rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients: those with persistent inflammatory refractory RA (PIRRA) and those with non-inflammatory refractory RA (NIRRA). Identifying individuals with predominant PIRRA or NIRRA is crucial for informing distinct treatment and management approaches for refractory RA.

Summary: This study used Mendelian randomization to examine the causal links between gut microbiome components and SLE risk. The results suggest that certain gut microbiome components may have causal effects on the risk of SLE, with some components increasing the risk and others reducing it.

Summary: IL-33 has been found to exhibit an association with multiple cytokines and chemokines in synovial fluid, with a U-type dose-dependent regulatory effect on FLS function demonstrated in vitro. The applicability of the U-shaped curve fit in clinical practice is limited.
