Spatial inequalities in skilled birth attendance in India: a spatial-regional model approach

Summary: Despite an increase in skilled birth assisted deliveries in India, there are significant disparities in accessing maternity care services across different social groups, particularly across states and regions. This study examines the distribution of skilled birth assisted deliveries across districts in India using a spatial-regression model. It also investigates the population characteristics associated with low coverage of skilled birth assisted deliveries.

Regional inequality in the Janani Suraksha Yojana coverage in India: a geo-spatial analysis

Summary: This study used the National Family Health Survey data from 2015-16 in India, with a sample size of 148,145 women aged 15-49 who gave birth in an institution within the preceding 5 years. Spatial dependence and clustering of JSY coverage were analyzed using Moran's I statistics and bivariate LISA maps. The findings showed high spatial-autocorrelation for JSY coverage in India, with overall coverage at 36.4% varying significantly across regions and socioeconomic groups.
