Study on the genetic structure of wild and hatchery populations of Procypris rabaudi Tchang, an endemic fish in the upper Yangtze River

Xiaoyu Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic diversity and structure among wild populations and hatchery population of rock carp in Wanzhou, Chishui, and Hejiang. Results showed that the released individuals have influenced the genetic diversity and structure of wild populations, and the current population sizes are not enough to sustain the long-term survival of rock carp. Recommendations have been made to enhance the genetic diversity by adding new wild individuals to the hatchery population.

Genetic Diversity and Population Structure of Portunus trituberculatus in Released and Wild Populations Based on Microsatellite DNA Markers from the Yangtze Estuary

Longtao Yue et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the genetic diversity and structure of Portunus trituberculatus, an economically important crab species, in the Yangtze River Estuary and its adjacent sea areas. Our analysis showed that both artificially bred and wild populations have relatively rich genetic diversity. In addition, we found evidence of inbreeding and genetic exchange among subgroups within the populations. Overall, our findings suggest that the hatchery stock enhancements in Nantong and Zhoushan did not result in a reduction in genetic diversity for wild populations in the Yangtze Estuary in 2019.

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite markers in two species of the neotropical Epicharis (Hymenoptera, Apidae, Centridini) genus and cross-amplification in related species

Lenice Souza-Shibatta et al.

Summary: This study developed microsatellite loci for two Neotropical solitary bee species, and demonstrated high polymorphism and heterozygosity. These loci show promising applicability for population genetic studies and relatedness analysis in these and other Centridini species.

A 20-year retrospective review of global aquaculture

Rosamond L. Naylor et al.

Summary: The sustainability of aquaculture has been intensely debated since 2000, with major contributions coming from inland aquaculture in Asia. There have been significant advances in feed efficiency and fish nutrition, but reliance on marine ingredients remains a challenge. Molluscs and seaweed have potential for ecosystem services and global nutritional security, but their quantification, valuation, and market development are still underexploited.

Parentage determination of black sea bream (Acanthopagrus schlegelii) for stock enhancement: effectiveness and loss of genetic variation

Binbin Shan et al.

Summary: Stock enhancement programs for black sea bream in China have shown limited effectiveness in the Zhujiang River Estuary and Daya Bay. While there was high survival of released fish, there was a loss of genetic variation and negative genetic effects observed in the hatchery-released stock.

Mitochondrial Genetic Diversity among Farmed Stocks of Oreochromis spp. (Perciformes, Cichlidae) in Madagascar

Nicolas Hubert et al.

Summary: The study compared DNA barcode genetic diversity among eight farms and three species of fish, revealing six distinct and highly divergent lineages. High levels of mitochondrial genetic diversity were observed, with local strains showing higher diversity than recently introduced strains. This could provide multiple options for maintaining genetic diversity in broodstock and selective breeding programs.
