25 (S)-Hydroxycholesterol acts as a possible dual enzymatic inhibitor of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro and RdRp-: an insight from molecular docking and dynamics simulation approaches

Faisal A. Alzahrani et al.

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a global crisis with millions of deaths, and effective treatment options are still lacking. This study explores the potential antiviral activity of 25-HC, an oxysterol derivative, against SARS-CoV-2. Through molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and MM/GBSA analysis, the study demonstrates the inhibitory activity and binding stability of 25-HC against viral enzymes RdRp and M-pro. These findings suggest the potential of 25-HC as a treatment and prevention option for COVID-19 complications.

Sensitivity and specificity of 14 SARS-CoV-2 serological assays and their diagnostic potential in RT-PCR negative COVID-19 infections

Eveline Van Honacker et al.

Summary: COVID-19 serology testing has an adjunctive diagnostic value for suspected COVID-19 cases with negative molecular test, especially for patients in the second week or later after symptom onset. The sensitivity of COVID-19 serological diagnosis varied but consistently increased at >7 days after symptom onset, while the specificity was high.

Untargeted Metabolic Profiling of Extracellular Vesicles of SARS-CoV-2-Infected Patients Shows Presence of Potent Anti-Inflammatory Metabolites

Faisal A. Alzahrani et al.

Summary: This study investigated the metabolite content of EVs isolated from the serum of COVID-19 patients, revealing the presence of antivirals, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory metabolites, and decreased levels of coagulation-related metabolites. These findings suggest that EVs may play a crucial role in mediating heightened inflammation during COVID-19 infection, paving the way for the identification of novel metabolites as regulators of inflammatory pathways during viral infections.

Impact of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) lockdown on ambient air quality of Saudi Arabia

Mohammed Othman Aljahdali et al.

Summary: The study analyzed data from nine cities in Saudi Arabia to determine the impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on ambient air quality. It found that while pollutant concentrations decreased during the lockdown period, they remained above WHO limits. The findings suggest that controlling traffic, industrial activities, and promoting environmentally friendly transportation programs could lead to significant reduction in atmospheric pollutants.
