Genetic variation of olfactory receptor gene family in a Japanese population

Muhammad Shoaib Akhtar et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic variation of olfactory receptor (OR) genes and neutral genome regions in a Japanese population using targeted capture enrichment and massive parallel short-read sequencing methods. The results revealed that the composition of OR genes in the human reference genome hg38 does not necessarily represent those in many humans, indicating higher perceptual variation than previously thought. This study inspires further investigation with a similar approach at a global scale.

Integration of whole-exome and anchored PCR-based next generation sequencing significantly increases detection of actionable alterations in precision oncology

Shaham Beg et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the frequency of clinically relevant mutations in solid tumors using targeted and whole-exome sequencing, as well as the detection of actionable gene fusions in advanced cancer patients. The findings underscore the importance of an integrative genomic approach for precision oncology, especially the use of different NGS platforms with complementary features. Integrating RNA data significantly enhances the detection of potential drug targets in cancer patients, demonstrating the utility of AMP-based NGS in detecting actionable fusions from archival tissue.
