Comparative Profiling of Survival, Growth, and Intestinal Microbial Community of Pearl Oyster Pinctada maxima Juvenile in the Industrial Farming: The Feasibility of Using Spray-Dried Microalgae Powder

Shouguo Yang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the feasibility of using spray-dried microalgal powder as a substitute for live microalga in industrial P. maxima juvenile farming. The results showed that spray-dried microalgal groups had slightly lower growth performance but higher enzyme activities compared to live microalgal groups. The dominant bacterial phylum in the intestinal community of P. maxima juveniles was Proteobacteria, and the dominant genus varied depending on the diet. The findings suggest that spray-dried microalgal powder can be used as a substitute for live microalga in controlled industrial farming conditions.

Growth, calcium content, proximate composition, and fatty acid composition of triangle sail mussel (Hyriopsis cumingii) fed five different microalgal diets

Qiang Chen et al.

Summary: The sustainable cultivation of triangle sail mussel Hyriopsis cumingii is hindered by the lack of a suitable diet. Through single factor experiments, it was found that Cyclotella sp. was the optimal microalgal diet for H. cumingii, followed by Scenedesmus dimorphus.

Repeated exposure to simulated marine heatwaves enhances the thermal tolerance in pearl oysters

Guixiang He et al.

Summary: The study shows that pearl oysters exhibit significant physiological changes in response to marine heatwaves, but repeated exposure to heatwaves can alleviate the acute enzyme responses, indicating the pearl oysters have the ability to rapidly adapt to thermal stress.

Comparison in Growth, Feeding, and Metabolism Between a Fast-Growing Selective Strain and a Cultured Population of Pearl Oyster (Pinctada fucata martensii)

Xingzhi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study compared the growth characteristics between a fast-growing selective strain and a cultured population of P. f. martensii in Beihai, Guangxi Province, China. Results showed that the selective strain had larger size and higher growth rate, attributed to increased energy intake and reduced energy consumption.

A SNP parentage assignment panel for the silver lipped pearl oyster (Pinctada maxima)

C. Massault et al.

Summary: A genetic tool for resolving pedigree relationships in the silver-lipped pearl oyster, Pinctada maxima, has been developed and shown to accurately assign progeny to parents with a 95% confidence using a panel of 50 or more SNPs.

Optimizing microalgae diets for hard clam, Mercenaria mercenaria, larvae culture

Md Mahbubul Hassan et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the optimal microalgae diet for hard clam larvae by comparing different combinations of commonly fed microalgae species. T. Iso and C. gracilis fed in equal proportion throughout the larval period resulted in the highest levels of larval growth, development, and survival. Additionally, feeding T. Iso alone provided higher growth and survival rates compared to P. lutheri, while C. gracilis paired with T. Iso outperformed C. muelleri when combined as a dual-species diet.
