Understanding the Digestive Peptidases from Crustaceans: from Their Biochemical Basis and Classical Perspective to the Biotechnological Approach

Adriana Teresita Muhlia-Almazan et al.

Summary: This review summarizes the development of research on crustacean peptidases, from classical biochemical characterization studies to the evaluation of their applications in biotechnology and industrial processes. The potential biotechnological applications of crustacean peptidases in the food industry and other fields have been revealed, but there is still much to explore.

The digestive function of gilthead seabream juveniles in relation to feeding frequency

Neda Gilannejad et al.

Summary: This study investigated the daily expression profiles of key genes related to digestive function in gilthead seabream under different feeding frequencies. Clock genes were found to play a significant role in daily organization of some digestive functions, while the majority of genes encoding digestive enzymes did not show significant changes in expression along the daily cycle. Feed frequency had a limited impact on gene expression, but proteolytic activities exhibited circadian rhythms influenced by feeding protocols.

Partial characterization of digestive proteases in Pacific red snapper Lutjanus peru Nichols & Murphy, 1922 (Perciformes: Lutjanidae)

Emyr S. Pena-Marin et al.

Summary: The study on the digestive proteases of juvenile L. peru found that acid proteases had higher activity, with an optimal temperature range of 30 to 40 degrees C, while trypsin and alkaline proteases had optimal temperatures at 30 to 50 degrees C and 40 to 60 degrees C respectively. Digestion in L. peru relies on stomach proteases followed by chymotrypsin for intestinal digestion.

Interaction Between Dietary Lipid Level and Seasonal Temperature Changes in Gilthead Sea Bream Sparus aurata: Effects on Growth, Fat Deposition, Plasma Biochemistry, Digestive Enzyme Activity, and Gut Bacterial Community

Nicole Francesca Pelusio et al.

Summary: The study results suggest that during seasonal temperature changes, gilthead sea bream should prefer a 16% dietary lipid content in order to optimize feed utilization and gut health.
