Institutional quality and its spatial spillover effects on energy efficiency

Huaping Sun et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the spatial effect of institutional quality on energy efficiency using a panel data of 99 countries (economies) from 1995 to 2016. The results confirm the positive impact of institutional quality on energy efficiency and suggest that being close to countries with good institutional framework has a positive effect on domestic energy efficiency.

Evaluation and prediction of the level of high-quality development: A case study of the Yellow River Basin, China

Long Jiang et al.

Summary: The study found that the level of HQD in the Yellow River Basin changed dynamically over time and has improved to varying degrees in all provinces. The cultural subsystem was identified as hindering further improvement of HQD, with the proportion of the cultural industry in GDP being a main obstacle factor in most provinces. Speeding up economic development and increasing ecological protection emerged as the optimal development path for the Yellow River Basin.

Marine economic growth, technological innovation, and industrial upgrading: A vector error correction model for China

Qinglong Shao et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationship between marine economic growth, technological innovation, and industrial upgrading in China from 2006 to 2016 using a vector error correction model (VECM). The results show that in the long term, marine economic growth positively influences marine technological innovation, and vice versa; however, neither of them promote industrial upgrading. It is also found that the shift from secondary industry to tertiary industry may hinder marine technological innovation, which is concerning given the current service-oriented trend in China's marine industry.

Evolutionary game analysis on behavior strategies of multiple stakeholders in maritime shore power system

Lang Xu et al.

Summary: This paper examines the mechanism of interaction among the strategic choices of a shore power system involving government, port enterprises, and liner companies, using an evolutionary game model. The study found that the government tends to use incentives, port enterprises prefer to implement shore power, and liner companies choose to modify shore power facilities. The initial strategy of government significantly impacts the strategic evolution of port enterprises and liner companies.

Regional difference and convergence analysis of marine science and technology innovation efficiency in China

Gen Li et al.

Summary: This study used stochastic frontier analysis to calculate the efficiency of marine science and technology innovation in 11 coastal provinces and cities in China from 2006 to 2015, analyzing regional differences and influencing factors. The results show an overall upward trend in marine science and technology innovation efficiency, with significant variation among provinces and cities. There is a significant negative correlation between government support and efficiency, while factors such as the scale of marine scientific research institutions and structure of scientific research personnel have positive impacts. Furthermore, there is no stochastic convergence among the Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta, and Pan-Pearl River Delta regions.

Has marine technology innovation promoted the high-quality development of the marine economy? --Evidence from coastal regions in China

Peide Liu et al.

Summary: The study measured the level of marine technology innovation in China's coastal regions using a comprehensive weight model and examined the role of marine technology innovation in the high-quality development of the marine economy using a threshold regression model. The results showed a nonlinear relationship between marine technology innovation and high-quality development of the marine economy, with the promotion effect gradually weakening when the level of innovation exceeds a certain threshold.

Primary production ultimately limits fisheries economic performance

Anthony R. Marshak et al.

Summary: This study explores the relationships between primary productivity and marine economies, finding that factors such as production, total biomass, fisheries landings, revenue, and LMR-based employment are all dependent on basal production and influenced by human population, exploitation history, and governance interventions. Understanding these relationships is crucial for sustainable management practices and global seafood sustainability.
