Summary: This study assessed the impact of stocking activities with fingerlings from Acheloos river hatcheries on the native trout populations of Nestos River in Greece. Results showed that the lower tributaries of Nestos have been strongly affected by stocking activities, while trout populations in higher altitude tributaries remain unaffected. Measures should be taken to prevent non-indigenous translocated Salmo from prevailing in higher altitude tributaries, and a management plan for the total trout populations in the area is necessary.
