Cystatin C and Muscle Mass in Patients With Heart Failure

Summary: In patients with heart failure, cystatin C levels were associated with muscle mass and may decrease the accuracy of eGFRcys. eGFRcys underestimated measured creatinine clearance at higher muscle mass, while eGFRcr did not. However, after adjusting for muscle mass, neither eGFRcys nor eGFRcr were associated with mortality.

Kidney Function and Outcomes in Patients Hospitalized With Heart Failure

Summary: This study evaluated the care patterns and outcomes in heart failure patients with different degrees of kidney function. It found that patients with comorbid heart failure and kidney disease are not optimally treated with evidence-based medical therapies, leading to increased mortality risk.
