Congo red dye removal from aqueous environment by cationic surfactant modified-biomass derived carbon: Equilibrium, kinetic, and thermodynamic modeling, and forecasting via artificial neural network approach

Ceren Karaman et al.

Summary: This study aimed to optimize, model, and forecast the biosorption of Congo Red onto biomass-derived bio-sorbent. The waste-orange-peels were processed to fabricate biomass-derived carbon, which was activated and modified. The physicochemical properties of the biosorbents were explored, and the effects of various factors on biosorption capacity were investigated. The findings revealed that the optimized ANN model can predict the behavior of the biosorption process accurately.

A green and sensitive guanine-based DNA biosensor for idarubicin anticancer monitoring in biological samples: A simple and fast strategy for control of health quality in chemotherapy procedure confirmed by docking investigation

Hassan Karimi-Maleh et al.

Summary: Pt- and Pd-incorporated ZnO nanoparticles-decorated single-wall carbon nanotubes (Pt-Pd-ZnO/SWCNTs) nanocomposites were used to modify a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) for the detection of idarubicin. The morphology and structure of the nanocomposite were characterized using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The modified electrode, ds-DNA/Pt-Pd-ZnO/SWCNTs/GCE, was fabricated using a layer-by-layer modification technique and used as a voltammetric sensor for sensitive monitoring of idarubicin. The biosensor showed good performance in detecting idarubicin with a detection limit of 0.8 nM.

Biochar for the removal of contaminants from soil and water: a review

Muqing Qiu et al.

Summary: Biochar has significant potential as a material for remediating water and soil due to its widespread availability and favorable physio-chemical surface characteristics. Its efficacy in managing contaminants depends on factors such as pyrolysis temperature, feedstock type, and surface properties. Higher temperature biochar is effective for managing organic pollutants, while lower temperature biochar is suitable for removing polar organic and inorganic pollutants. This review also discusses current obstacles and future research directions in using biochar to immobilize contaminants in water and soil.

Green synthesis for novel sorbent of sand coated with (Ca/Al)-layered double hydroxide for the removal of toxic dye from aqueous environment

Ayad A. H. Faisal et al.

Summary: This study utilized alum and cement kiln dust by-product waste to produce (Ca/Al)-LDH sorbent for effective removal of Congo red dye from simulated wastewater. The new nanoparticles precipitated on the sand surface significantly supported dye sorption, with the adsorbent's longevity in packed column increasing dramatically with controlled flow rate and sorbent mass. Numerical modeling effectively simulated breakthrough curves for solute transport equation, demonstrating the stability and efficiency of the prepared sorbent.
