Regulation of heat shock proteins 70 and their role in plant immunity

Miroslav Berka et al.

Summary: This article provides a summary of HSP70 post-translational control in plants, including the regulation of HSP70 expression and protein abundance by plant hormones, subcellular localization of HSP70s, chaperone activity, and their involvement in plant immunity against pathogens. The extensive regulation of HSP70 in plants has received little attention, and this review highlights the importance of HSP70 in plant defense mechanisms.

Nitrogen nutrition modifies the susceptibility of Arabidopsis thaliana to the necrotrophic fungus, Alternaria brassicicola

Thibault Barrit et al.

Summary: This study examined the impact of nitrogen source on the susceptibility to an necrotrophic fungus in Arabidopsis thaliana. The results showed that nitrate nutrition increased fungal lesions considerably, while infection with the fungus induced stronger gene expression of ammonium transporters in ammonium-grown plants. Nitrogen source also affected plant metabolism and the production of nitric oxide, which facilitated fungal infection. The study highlighted the complex relationship between nitrogen availability and disease susceptibility in plants.

Pythium oligandrum in plant protection and growth promotion: Secretion of hydrolytic enzymes, elicitors and tryptamine as auxin precursor

Katerina Belonoznikova et al.

Summary: This article reviews the positive effects of Pythium oligandrum as a biocontrol agent, focusing on its biochemical processes and effects on plants. P. oligandrum degrades host cell wall polysaccharides, competes for nutrients and space, and enhances plant defense mechanisms, resulting in better plant responses to pathogen attacks. Additionally, P. oligandrum promotes plant health through the production of secondary metabolites and the promotion of plant growth.

Effects of heat treatment on metabolism of tobacco plants infected with Potato virus Y

V Hyskova et al.

Summary: The heat shock proteins play a dual role in viral infection by accelerating the propagation of Potato virus Y while also participating in the plant defense response. Infection with potyvirus leads to an increase in salicylic and chlorogenic acids but a decrease in quinic acid content in plants.

Type 2 Nep1-Like Proteins from the Biocontrol Oomycete Pythium oligandrum Suppress Phytophthora capsici Infection in Solanaceous Plants

Kun Yang et al.

Summary: The study identified a total of 25 Necrosis- and Ethylene-inducing peptide 1-like proteins (NLPs) from Pythium oligandrum and Pythium periplocum, with some of them inducing necrosis in plants and showing biocontrol activities. Specifically, PyolNLP5 and PyolNLP7 were found to significantly reduce disease severity and suppress the in planta growth of Phytophthora capsici in solanaceous plants. The Phytophthora suppression effect of PyolNLP5 and PyolNLP7 is linked to the induction of antimicrobial plant defensin genes, which is irrelevant to reactive oxygen species accumulation.
